Phenotypes

Mouse phenotype:
decreased bone mineral content, increased blood urea nitrogen level
Mouse ciliopathy phenotype:
male infertility

Subcellular localization

cilia

Functional category

  • Ciliary assembly/disassembly
  • Actin & cytoskeleton regulation
  • T cell biology
  • Reproduction & sperm
  • Cell migration & adhesion

Function

CFAP61 recognized in human sperm flagellum with a strong accumulation sig l at the midpiece as well as throughout the flagellum, and also noted that co-localizes with tubulin, also suggesting axonemal pattern for CFAP61(36659204).

Model organism evidence

Mus musculus (2 references)

CFAP61 is required for sperm flagellum formation and male fertility in human and mouse.

Absence of murine CFAP61 causes male infertility due to multiple morphological abnormalities of the flagella.
