Subcellular localization

cilia

Functional category

  • Ciliary assembly/disassembly
  • Viral interactions
  • Cilia length regulation

Function

Epithelial polarity, tight junction formation and ciliogenesis. CRB3-CLPI isoform interacts with importin β-1 to be delivered to spindle poles during cell division and ciliogenesis, and this delivery may be important for centrosomemainte nce (17646395). It modulates intraflagellar transport and cilia elongation together with Par3/Par6/aPKC polarity complex (28882989, 15324661) Moreover, morpholino knockdown of crb3a in zebrafish was shown to reduce cilia length (28882989)

Model organism evidence

Xenopus (1 reference)

Crb3 is required to organize the apical domain of multiciliated cells.

Mus musculus (2 references)

CRB3 navigates Rab11 trafficking vesicles to promote γTuRC assembly during ciliogenesis.

CRB3 (Crumbs homologue 3), a member of the CRB protein family (homologous to the Drosophila Crumbs), is expressed in different epithelium-derived cell types in mammals, where it seems to be involved in regulating the establishment and stability of tight junctions and in ciliogenesis.

Danio rerio (1 reference)

In zebrafish, mutations of three crumbs genes, oko meduzy/crb2a, crb3a, and crb2b, affect cilia length in a subset of tissues.
