Cilia effects upon perturbation of DNAI3

Subcellular localization

cilia, flagella

Functional category

  • Ciliary assembly/disassembly
  • Actin & cytoskeleton regulation
  • T cell biology
  • Cell migration & adhesion

Function

Vertebrate orthologue of Chlamydomo s intermediate chain inner dynein arm protein IC140 which localises to Chlamydomo s flaggelar axoneme (9843573). In Chlamydomo s interacts with IC138 (WDR78 in vertebrates) and directly interacts with tubulin (24080090). Associates with inner dynein arm subunit Wdr78 in mice (30060180). Rare intragenic heterozygous in-frame WDR63 deletion identified as likely cause of occipital encephalocele in one human fetus (29285825). Similar mutations in zebrafish caused similar malformations (29285825). Also interacts with Arp2/3 to regulate actin polymerisation and inhibit cell migration, invasion, and metastasis (32128961)

Model organism evidence

Drosophila (1 reference)

Here, we describe and examine the genetic requirements for missing minor mitochondria (mmm), sterile affecting ciliogenesis (sac), and testes of unusual size (tous), three previously uncharacterized genes in Drosophila that are predicted to be components of the flagellar axoneme.
