Phenotypes
- Mouse phenotype:
- decreased locomotor activity, decreased startle reflex
Subcellular localization
basal body, centrosome, cilia, cytosol, nucleus
Functional category
- Ciliary assembly/disassembly
- Trafficking (BBSome, small GTPases, vesicular transport, ATPases)
- Actin & cytoskeleton regulation
- Viral interactions
- Signaling (Hedgehog, GPCRs, ion channels)
Function
Protein existing within cytoplasmic dynein 2. Interacts with DYNLL1 and WDR34 to control retrograde intraflagellar transport. Studies suggest that DYNLL2 may be able to function in place of DYNLL1. (25294941, 30649997)
Model organism evidence
Mus musculus (1 reference)
Severe spermatid defects, such as detached acrosomes, disrupted membranes and flagella malformations start to appear after spermiogenesis step 9 in Actl7b-/- mice, finally resulting in spermatogenic arrest.
