Phenotypes

Mouse phenotype:
embryonic lethality prior to organogenesis, decreased grip strength, preweaning lethality, complete penetrance

Subcellular localization

cilia associated gene, cytosol, nucleus

Functional category

  • Ciliary assembly/disassembly
  • Cell migration & adhesion
  • Signaling (Hedgehog, GPCRs, ion channels)
  • ECM & connective tissue

Function

Fgf4 was required for the formation of cilia in Kupffer's vesicle, indicating that the role of Fgf4 in the LR patterning is quite distinct from that of Fgf8. Fgf4 plays a unique role in the LR patterning of visceral organs in zebrafish ( 19481538).

Model organism evidence

Danio rerio (1 reference)

Here we provide in vivo evidence that melanoma cell adhesion molecule (MCAM) coordinates AB polarity-driven lumenogenesis and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK)/PCP-dependent ciliogenesis.
