Function

Lysine demethylase 4A (KDM4A) is required for cilia assembly and maintenance: genetic depletion or pharmacologic inhibition impairs ciliogenesis. Super-resolution imaging shows KDM4A at the basal body, where it wraps around the centrioles. KDM4A binds Rootletin (CROCC), and KDM4A loss increases the distance between centrioles, linking basal body architecture to ciliary failure (Motrapu et al., 2026, bioRxiv, PMID 41676476).
