Function

KNCN was a protein mainly located in the kinocilium of hair cells in the inner ear.KNCN is not essential for kinocilium-oriented hair bundle function in cochlear hair cells(PMID: 30254566).Kinocilin co-localizes with tubulins in bundled microtubular structures such as that found in the pericuticular necklace at the apex of the sensory cells. At earlier stages of spermiogenesis, kinocilin immunoreactivity was localized to the manchette of the elongating spermatid (PMID: 15855039). Deletion of Kncn does not affect kinocilium‐oriented hair bundle function in cochlear hair cells. Kinocilia was developed normally at this age in Kncn knockout mice. (30254566)
