Function

Importin alpha (KPNA2) has conserved localization in human epithelial primary cilia and Xenopus laevis epidermal multiciliated cells. Regulates ciliogenesis and cilia length maintenance in a palmitoylation-dependent manner. Key ciliary proteins CEP164 and ARL13B are candidate binding partners via their NLS. Disruption of importin alpha palmitoylation causes nephrogenesis defects in Xenopus (PMID:41017282). Importin alpha (KPNA2) localizes to human epithelial primary cilia and Xenopus multiciliated cells. Regulates ciliogenesis and cilia length via palmitoylation. Disruption causes nephrogenesis defects in Xenopus.
