Function

NRXN1 does not localize to cilia but to the apical actin network surrounding basal bodies of multiciliated cells (Kostyanovskaya et al., 2025, bioRxiv, PMID 39677731). This apical actin network stabilizes motile cilia and is essential for ciliogenesis (Sedzinski et al., 2016, Dev Cell, PMID 26766441; Sedzinski et al., 2017, J Cell Sci 130:420-428).
