Subcellular localization

Functional category

  • Ciliary assembly/disassembly
  • Trafficking (BBSome, small GTPases, vesicular transport, ATPases)
  • Actin & cytoskeleton regulation
  • T cell biology
  • Reproduction & sperm
  • Protein processing & maturation
  • Cell migration & adhesion
  • Transition zone

Function

Negative ciliogenesis regulator. Depletion of PLA2G3 facilitates cilium extension and induces ciliogenesis independent of serum starvation (20393563). Mediator of SREBP1c-induced cilium repression by distorting vesicular trafficking (25904332).

Model organism evidence

Mus musculus (1 reference)

Transmission EM further revealed that epididymal spermatozoa in Pla2g3-/- mice had both flagella with abnormal axonemes and aberrant acrosomal structures.
