- Trafficking (BBSome, small GTPases, vesicular transport, ATPases)
- Actin & cytoskeleton regulation
- Reproduction & sperm
- Protein processing & maturation
- Transition zone
- Transcription regulation
Function
Regulates of centrosome maturation. Induces the phosphorylation of the transition zone protein nephrocystin-1 and modulates trafficking required for ciliary mainte nce or disassembly (22701722). Interacts with and activates histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) to promote ciliary deacetylation and resorption. Plk1 is recruited to the pericentriolar region by PCM1 (23345402).
Model organism evidence
Danio rerio (1 reference)
PLK4 plays a crucial role in centriole duplication, which is essential for maintaining cellular processes such as cell division, cytoskeletal stability, and cilia formation.
