Functional category
- Ciliary assembly/disassembly
- Actin & cytoskeleton regulation
- Protein processing & maturation
Function
Role in pericentrosomal localisation and integrity of centriolar satellite and ciliogenesis through PCM1 phosphorylation (26755742). Interacts with CEP78. Over-expression induces centrosome amplification, which prevents the formation of basal bodies leading to loss of primary cilia (26701933, 27246242).
Model organism evidence
Danio rerio (1 reference)
PLK4 plays a crucial role in centriole duplication, which is essential for maintaining cellular processes such as cell division, cytoskeletal stability, and cilia formation.
