Function

PLPP3 has localized in flagella. Loss of Plpp3 in mouse neural crest cells causes frontonasal hypoplasia, hypotelorism, an anterior shift of the coronal suture and neonatal death from cardiac failure; global Plpp3 loss raises cephalic Fgf8 expression but does not prevent formation of the midbrain-hindbrain boundary (Ramirez-Corona et al., 2026, bioRxiv, doi 10.64898/2026.10.09.757845).
