Function
MST1/2 (STK4/STK3) and SAV1 form a Hippo pathway complex that promotes ciliogenesis. MST1 is activated during ciliogenesis and localizes to the basal body. Depletion of MST1/2 or SAV1 reduces both the percentage of ciliated cells and cilia length, and induces ciliopathy phenotypes in zebrafish. MST1/2 phosphorylate AURKA, releasing the AURKA/HDAC6 cilia-disassembly complex, and MST1/2-SAV1 associates with the NPHP transition-zone complex to promote ciliary localization of cargoes (PMID 25367221).
