Subcellular localization
cilia, endosome, mitochondria
Functional category
- Ciliary assembly/disassembly
- Trafficking (BBSome, small GTPases, vesicular transport, ATPases)
- Viral interactions
- Signaling (Hedgehog, GPCRs, ion channels)
Function
STOM mainly localizes in the knob/ciliary region of the OSNs while in the cell body it is detected in puncta. STOM and STOML3 share a similar expression pattern and STOML3 is necessary for STOM to properly localize to OSN cilia(35794236).
Model organism evidence
C. elegans (1 reference)
The presence of stomatin-IR paralleled the stages of ciliogenesis in airway development, and its appearance preceded the elongation of the axoneme and the cilial outgrowth.
