Phenotypes

Mouse ciliopathy phenotype:
enlarged heart, abnormal liver morphology

Subcellular localization

centrosome, cilia, cytosol, endosome

Functional category

  • Ciliary assembly/disassembly
  • Trafficking (BBSome, small GTPases, vesicular transport, ATPases)
  • Actin & cytoskeleton regulation
  • Signaling (Hedgehog, GPCRs, ion channels)

Function

UNC119 bound T伪-GTP, inhibiting its GTPase activity, thereby providing a stable UNC119鈥揟伪-GTP complex capable of diffusing from the inner segment back to the outer segment after light-induced translocation. UNC119 is a G伪 subunit cofactor essential for G protein trafficking in sensory cilia(21642972). nphp-2 (the C. elegans Inversin homolog) and the doublet region genes arl-13, klp-11, and unc-119 are redundantly required for ciliogenesis(25501555).

Model organism evidence

Danio rerio (1 reference)

UNC119 proteins are required for ciliary trafficking in a process called lipidated protein intraflagellar targeting (LIFT) or through vesicle transport.
