Phenotypes

Mouse phenotype:
decreased tidal volume, abnormal cholesterol homeostasis

Subcellular localization

cilia

Functional category

  • Ciliary assembly/disassembly
  • Trafficking (BBSome, small GTPases, vesicular transport, ATPases)
  • Ciliary membrane
  • Transition zone

Function

ARL3 effector UNC119 as a binding partner of the myristoylated ciliopathy protein nephrocystin-3 (NPHP3). Binding of ARL3-GTP serves to release myristoylated cargo from UNC119.

Model organism evidence

C. elegans (2 references)

ARL-13 acts synergistically with UNC-119, but antagonistically with ARL-3, in regulating ciliogenesis.

elegans Inversin homolog) and the doublet region genes arl-13, klp-11, and unc-119 are redundantly required for ciliogenesis.
