Subcellular localization

cilia, cilia associated gene, endoplasmic reticulum

Functional category

  • Ciliary assembly/disassembly
  • Trafficking (BBSome, small GTPases, vesicular transport, ATPases)
  • Actin & cytoskeleton regulation
  • Metabolism
  • Viral interactions
  • Protein processing & maturation
  • Signaling (Hedgehog, GPCRs, ion channels)
  • Transition zone

Function

Regulator of protein quality control and ubiquitin-mediated sig ling. Interacts wiith UBXN10 to control its localisation to cilia. VCP and UBXN10 interaction is also required for ciliogenesis and mainte nce of cilia (26389662). VCP localizes to primary cilia; its inhibition reduces cilia length and affects cilia assembly. VCP inhibition reduces cyst burden in Pkd1-KO mice. Connects proteostasis and ciliary dynamics.

Model organism evidence

Mus musculus (1 reference)

In addition, we discovered that VCP is localized in the primary cilia and its inhibition affects cilia assembly and reduces the cilia length.NEW & NOTEWORTHY Our findings identify VCP as a novel ciliary protein and a potential therapeutic target for A
